Our camera guided ROW-GUARD sideshift frame has been ensuring precision hoeing for years by keeping the row-crop cultivator fully automatic in the row. With the new SMART-HILL assistance system, it’s now being expanded to include an additional dimension: An additional rotating axis automatically compensates for drift and tilt of the row-crop cultivator on slopes. This makes fully automatic slope compensation possible for the first time, significantly increasing precision, efficiency, and ease of use.
Limits of previous technology
Until now, camera guided hoeing machines have reached their limits on slopes: The tractor and attachment drifted, the finger weeder missed the row, and precision and working speed suffered. Current systems can adjust the offset manually or semi-automatically, but the basic problem of drift and the resulting tilt of the row-crop cultivator is not solved. SMART-HILL solves this problem for the first time with automatic angle correction – a decisive advance in mechanical weed control.
Automatic angle compensation
SMART-HILL expands our proven sideshift frame with an additional axis that automatically corrects the angle of the row-crop cultivator as soon as drift or steering movements occur. The system is fully integrated into the ROW-GUARD and keeps the row-crop cultivator permanently parallel to the row.
“This makes it possible for the first time to hoe precisely and at higher speed, even on uneven and hilly terrain. The finger weeders run exactly along the row, damage to the crop row is avoided, and the quality of work is significantly improved,” explains Michael Einböck.
Awarded the silver medal
The SMART-HILL system, developed in collaboration with Claas E-Systems, was awarded the silver medal of the Innovation Award by the DLG at Agritechnica 2025.
“SMART-HILL is a milestone in precision hoeing technology. We are particularly pleased that this innovation has also been recognized by the DLG as a practical and innovative solution and awarded the silver medal. This award confirms that we are on the right track and shows that we can offer farmers worldwide real advantages and support in their work,” emphasizes Leo Einböck.
